put yr head out

i want to design like public enemy sounds. [nation of millions era, anyway] intense flowing urban soundscapes. abrasive and jarring, trapped in the trunk of chuck’s Olds 98. dunno where we’re headed… just a thought.

i’m a little happier at work today. i think i make myself grouchy by focusing on my dislike for certain co-workers. if i can get past all that and just be nice, it puts me in a better mood. i used to have roommates like that. made myself miserable hating them all the time.

got emmylou tonite. 2nd row. i’m gonna feel like royalty.

anybody wanna get small?

someones gotta case of the…

spent most of the morning scanning through The Bad Movie Review Website. looking for some good b-movie quotes for the upcoming sissy|space|sex demo. [any ideas, ryan?] there’s some awesome stuff up there, worth sorting thru.

i put up the first ego, inc desktop today, over in the ‘misc‘ section.

i’m tired. annoyed. cranky. listening to all 2.5 hours of Rollins’ Get in the Van. probably not the best medicine.

when it pains…

…it roars.

once again, there’s no decent shows for months. now i’m up to my ears in sonic engagements.

July 31. – EmmyLou Harris/Shawn Colvin – WolfTrap

August 6 – Gillian Welch @ Birchmere

September 3 – Alkaline Trio @ Nation

September 25 – Sigur Ros @ 930

well, okay.. after typing those all in, i realized that they’re fairly well spaced and could be worse. it’s just the feeling of ‘how do i fit all these upcoming shows into my already semi-hectic schedule?’ maybe in 10 years i’ll shrug off the concerts and opt for a more responsible night, but you’re only young once or twice, right?!

BTW… I’m still holding 1 2nd row ticket for the wolftrap show next tuesday. any takers? bueller?

i bent my wookie.

The Simpsons – The Complete First Season (DVD).

Guess what just made my wish list?

morganhole

i remember back in the heyday of nirvana and grunge an interview with kurt cobain. Mr. VJ was asking some insipid question about Seattle and the number of bands pouring out of that scene. KC responded “it’s just a city, man. a location. who knows, the next big scene will probably come out of west virginia!” we were all giggling about it, but it was nice to think of the possiblity.

if there ever was to be a scene in WV, it woulda come out of Morgantown. home of WVU and loads of creativity. there are/were a crapload of awesome bands that came outta here, karma to burn, lincoln, dartswinger…

check out The Scene: Morgantown, WV. go to the mp3 page and get all streamy

desert island design.

Vir2L: i want a job here. this is my mission. or someplace like it. (though i haven’t found anyplace like it in the DC area)

i’m having a hard time dealing with the summertime job itchiness. was talking about it last weekend. summer is a time for change. you get every summer off until you’re 20 years old. it’s a time for personal evolution, for growth. come back in the fall and everyone’s changed. now i’m 25. i don’t get summers off anymore. i still want to evolve, i want to break this stagnating rut i call work. hmmmmm…. job market calls. dunno. i still like it here, tho.

go here.

buy me.

i’ve stumbled onto some tickets for the emmylou harris/shawn colvin show at wolf trap on july 31st. my mom is thinkin’ about coming down to see it. if she can’t make it, i’ll have 2 extra tickets on my hands… anybody want them? they’ll be 2nd row seats and discounted. drop me a line.

i got a bunch of stuff installed on the new ‘puter last nite. damn it’s fast. way fast. supafast. i’m just wishing that i had the foresight to add a modem to get it online in these times of DSL drought. VerizonDSL sez i should have service by August 14th. believe it when i see it. earthlink said they couldn’t give me service because my address and my verizon telephone bill address don’t match up. the clincher: they do match, they send me a bill every month, so i don’t know what the hell’s up with that.

also in the works: gillian welch @ the Birchmere – August 6th

nostril-algia

two grains of shining truth:

1) getting DSL is a pain in the ass.

2) there’s a new nostalgia goin’ down.

where the head rules the body.

good afternoon, all! had a good weekend down in richmond. krista and elmer hosted a kickass wedding reception. killians on tap, crazyass dancing and good conversation. “spoon” is elmer’s drunken alter ego. spoon does some crazy kung-fu action. we all went back to our hotel/b&b and talked till 2 in mo’nin’. ate lunch at waffle house. mmmmm. i miss those bigass cardiac arrest causin’ platters like nuthin else. where else can $5 buy you a rib spreading?

squeezed in a schaffer ride saturday morning before we left for richmond. beautiful, low humidity day, gliding along some of the sweetest local singletrack. i was in a good mood. still am, just thinking about it.

sissy|space|sex finished up some of the last tracks for “Catalog Holiday”. now we just gotta figure out what else we want to put to tape for this session. can’t wait to get a product in hand so we can start playing some shows!

you gotta check this out. theyrule is a crazy, flash-based interactive database of all the major corporations, who sits on the board, and what other boards they are part of. you can even see what political donations that person has made. [via: WhatDoesNotChange]
