washed out with the tides

dooce is gone, kaliber10000 is back. it’s all for the best, as the web should never be static. i’ve got lots of plans for the redesign next week, hopefully i can hit ‘em on time… if not, egoinc may go off the air for a bit. no sense in doing a half-assed launch. mmmmmm…. ass lunch.

okay, i’ve got a question for all my west coast [whatwhat!!] readers… kristy & i are heading out to the SF area for a wedding in july (around the 13th or 14th i think). since we’re blowing so much cash on the tix to get out there, we’re trying to save some dough on the shelter thing… anybody want to put us up? we don’t need much, just some space to roll out the sleeping bags and a shower… in return, we’ll cook for you, tell you jokes, paint your house and write songs about how beautiful you all are in the mornings… got no space to spare? that’s cool… maybe y’all can toss some recommendations for cheap lodgings around there? that’d be great.

okay, enough for now… i’m heading over to k10k to play.

adabahoo

lex and rodeorob came over on saturday to give me some actual human company. i’d been talking to noone but canines all day, so it was welcomed. rented Before Night Falls mostly ‘coz of the academy award nomination and assorted award buzz around it. maybe i just wasn’t in the mood for it, but it seemed looooooong and kind of dry. i did learn to stay away from those naked cuban car washes, tho…

dogs are funny. they all have different tics, just like humans. i slept on the couch all weekend, keepin’ the pups company. tried sleepin upstairs in my room once, but coleman would have none of that… back to the couch for me ;>

crawling around in my attic yesterday, i realized something. cramped, dirty, high spaces kind of wig me out. i’m not sure which aspect it is that i don’t like, it’s probably the fear factor of one misstep and crashing thru the ceiling. there’s all kinds of stuff going on up there, an old rooftop tv antenna, ductwork and wires going all over the place. i’m trying to find a way to run the cable up to the attic and distribute it to the office and master bedroom. getting it up to the attic is no problem, i just need to figure out how to get it down into the walls of the necessary rooms.

worked on the egoinc redesign a bit, after climbing a few walls and getting some crucial help from ryan, i installed movable type on the server. very, very intuitive interface. seems like it’s going to very nice to work with. thought i’d finally whip out some of my flashiness for the new egoinc, nothing too crazy, just some fun functionality. you don’t see too much flash in the blog world. wonder why that is?

borrowed the new alkalinetrio hotwater split from alex. kickin’ out the jams right now… repeatedly. really good schtuff.

change for the same

yet another blogging article in the washingtonpost: Who Cares What You Think? Blog, and Find Out.

winwinwinwin!

rapidly approaching our 1000th review over at ADDreviews, we decided to have a contest… why don’t ya head on over and try to guess the future date of our 1000th review. win sumpin, okay?

the giant canine slumber party weekend is over. i’m cashed. get some more later, okay?

staley found dead

just found out that Layne Staley died last nite. kinda sad, kinda expected… did anyone really think he’d cleaned up?

he holds his home in the palm of his hand and he says, and he says you are my everyone, you are my anyone you are my anytime, you are my every time you are my everywhere…anywhere… [fugazi, glue man]

friday five

okay, for the record, i’m not a huge fan of television. after a rough day, it’s really nice to melt into the couch and lock into the jawbox, but most days, i’d rather do something productive. hell, i’d rather be on the computer… at least i’m interacting and learning, not stuck in a trance.

that being said, i’ve absorbed enough radiation in my life to be able to contribute to the friday five

1. What’s your favorite TV show and why? right now, i’m just giddy if i can catch an episode of the osbournes. i’ve always loved the ozzman for his sheer unknowing sense of humor. a friend used to have the video, “Don’t Blame Me: the Ozzy Osbourne Story”. it got played soooo much for over a year, i can quote most of it verbatum.

2. Who is your favorite television star? ummmm…. homer?

3. What was your favorite TV show as a child? easy. the Dukes. when i was really young, i’d look forward to friday nights at 8 for my “Dukes Parties”, which involved popcorn, treats and Bo & Luke. musta been the potent combination of car chases and the intense character development that lured me in. i’m always a sucker for cars.

4. What show do you think should have been cancelled by now? Kristy loves it, but i really can’t stand that Roswell show on the dubba dubba. c’mon, angsty teenage aliens?

5. What new show do you hope escapes the axe this season? hmmm… i don’t think i’ve really seen that many new shows. i saw 10 minutes of that Andy Richter show, but not enough to judge. i guess i have to go back to the osbournes

bikes, bowling, black labs.

sheesh, i hate when stuff breaks. mike and i were halfway thru a great urban ride in dc last night, i was nailing some big fun drops and having a great time. we got down to the lincoln memorial and as i shift up and crank up a set of stairs, i feel a giant ‘pop’ and start spinning. damn chain broke. errrrgh. i hate fixing chains. i’d rather rebuild a fork that deal with chains. i’m just too fumble-fingered to deal with breakers and pins and de-tensioning the derailleur. anyway, after i spent 20 minutes or so fumbling around, i finally fixed it enough to get me back to the car. good night overall tho, nothing like getting a good sweat on and scaring the crap outta some tourists!

hey lex, there’s an article in the post about cosmic bowling that gives locations and times for all local lanes. sweet!

kristy’s heading out to new orleans for a conference on friday, leaving me and pup to fend for ourselves. actually, i’m gonna be chock-full of dogs. neighbor Tom is heading out to seattle for the weekend and i’m watching coleman. it’s going to be a giant canine slumber-party at my house all weekend! i’m actually really looking forward to it. hopefully everyone can behave themselves. doubtful ;P

hopefully, i can spend all that freetime getting ready for a crazy May 1st reboot. remember that, per regulations, we’ll be shut down here from the 25th until May 1st.

read this interview with john reis and tell me that he’s not the coolest man on earth. [since the Whigs broke up, anyway...]

newsmakers?

Dave Winer bets on blogging’s future. [washingtonpost]

i’d never really thought of the world taking any of us seriously. sure, i get most of my news from blogs like the morning news, diveintomark and metafilter, but i also work and play on the net 24-7. what about the rest of the world?
