ru-roh! rodeo rog!

yeah, so it’s about damn time that our writer pal rodeo rob set himself up the rodeo blog

fredneck watershed

man, good thing it’s monday. i need to rest up from the weekend.

took jack and cole out for a 2 hour hike down the accotink connector trail saturday morning to tire ‘em out. jack managed to slice one of his pads and track blood all over the house. i’m running around like a madman trying to bandage him up/clean the blood up/pull my suit on for the wedding. hectic. saw gardiner & jennifer get married at a very cool old church. congratulations, you guys!

got myself out to frederick, md on sunday to ride some of the big drops n ladders with people in the know. most of my experience with drops and north-shore type stuff comes from urban riding. so i was stoked to be dropping into soft dirt. i kept up with the FS guys pretty well, but lots of the biggest stuff got put on my ‘next time’ list.

freeridin.net has some pics of the spots we hit, check ‘em out.

war story: halfway thru the ride, i’m rolling down a pretty steep, semi-technical descent and start to feel a really, really painful sting on my wrist. i’m swatting away at it with one hand, riding with the other. after i feel more stings on my arms, i dump the bike, get back up on my feet and run down the hill. musta pissed off a hornets nest, most of us got multiple stings. i haven’t been stung in so long i forgot how painful they really are. now it’s just itchy. heh.

friday jive

grey cloudy friday in egoLand. the wife’s heading down to charlottesville for a wedding. i’m staying home to watch cole & jack, meeting her down there tomorrow.

a lot of good stuff going on this weekend:
War Photographer @ the Hirshorn
Wintergreen Freeride Fest
MXDC

lotsa options… of course it’s the one weekend i’m outta town for saturday. figgers.

speaking of bands that i’d gladly shell out the bux to see: The Little Kingz

girls against blake

looking for a painful read? struggle thru this GVSB article on aversion

also, they note that Blackball is re-releasing jawbreaker’s ‘Dear You’. even though it was their last album, i think it serves as an excellent introduction to the band.

thursday III

Thursday Three: Concerts

  1. What was the first concert you attended?
  2. Huey Lewis and the News, circa 1983 (the Sports tour). i remember being very psyched about it. i loved me some HL&N. call me a cheeseball, but that album still holds up for me over 20 years. there weren’t many cultural opportunities like that in wheeling. i’m pretty lucky that my parents exposed me to live music pretty early on.

  3. What was the most memorable (life changing) concert you ever attended? Why?
  4. i will never forget the first time i saw fugazi. 16 years old at the overcrowded metropol in pittsburgh. the club was packed about 200+ people over capacity. we’d been there since noon to make sure we got in and got up front. 8 hours later, the familiar feedback of ’smallpox champion’ wove its way thru the crowd. when the band kicked in it sounded like the air was on fire. i’ll never forget that moment.

  5. Do you feel ticket prices for the concerts you attend are fair?
  6. i have no problem paying $10 or under for a band that i really want to see. they’re pretty few and far between these days. i’d probably drop $20 to see the afghan whigs again (black love era) i don’t usually drink when i’m out, so that cheapens it up a bit (a $4 rolling rock? what?). sigur ros is coming and it’s $35. that kinda hurts, but i’m going to pay it. and it will probably be worth it.

the big payoff

check out my big brother: EGOinc.com [brought to my attention by bryan]

“EGO Inc is an aggregator of customized financial and luxury lifestyle products for the affluent.”

this must have just launched recently, there’s been nothing but a placeholder for the longest time. i’m really hoping that my presence here and high search engine ranking annoys them enough to buy me out. [insert high dollar dreamscape here]

a request to blogland

hm. looks like the idiot husband screwed up the VCR timer last nite.

meaning the wife didn’t get to watch the premier episode of Buffy last nite. why is such a simple little thing so easy to mess up? lucky for me, i wasn’t banished to the couch for the night. did anyone out there happen to get the image/audio-to-tape procedure right? i’d be forever in your debt. really.

idlewild video

Idlewild’s new album won’t be out in america until this spring, but you can view a video interview that details the band’s thoughts behind each new track, kinda cool. it’d be a lot cooler with subtitles though. man, i have a hard time understanding scottish accents…
