halloweenie

today is the day when we praise the birth of scott. so let it be.

jack had his first obedience training class last nite [watch the MIDI on that one... it's piercing]. he did really well considering all the distractions that were going down. we’re doing simple stuff now, sitting and staying. up next is ‘heel’ … that’s where the pup’s gotta walk right next to you, turn with you, stop with you… all that thinking might just blow jacko’s brain right outta his head.

problem is with these classes is that they’re classes. jack and i are both so ADD‘d out, it’s tough for either of us to pay attention. my classroom aversion has become very pronounced the older i get. you should have seen me in the greek theology classes we took before getting married. i’ve got notebooks full of doodles to prove i wasn’t paying attention.

even now, it’s taken me about 30 minutes to write this simple post. i keep checking email, getting up to go work on a director project, kicking over to photoshop to contemplate the design project i’m on, checking referrer logs… any shiny object will do.

oh yeah, happy halloween. we’re both psyched to live in a place that might actually have some kids trick-or-treating. stay away from the razor blades. and save me a reese’s cup

disckids

for whatever reason, the folks at musicmatch are trying to tell me that disc #3 of the dischord box set contains such hits as: “Bob the Builder” and “Scooby Doo”

get up on that BMWfilms ‘HOSTAGE’ action. well worth the 110Mb download [via: NKDP]

sunday’s “bike lifestyle day” was a pretty good time, got to take out the 2003 Giant AC-1, the Santa Cruz Bullit, the new Maverick-licensed Klein Palamino

the bullit was the only one out of the three that i could ever see myself getting into. it was pretty responsive for a bike with 5″ front and rear travel. the giant just felt like i was moving in slow motion. the palamino would make a great XC race bike… if you’re into that sort of thing.

the 2003 XTR gear looks niiiiiice … but complicated, like a rocket ship instrument cluster. IF had a custom built titanium jobby with full XTR. the component group by itself costs twice as much as my whole bike.

oh yeah, stickers… lots of stickers

saturday nite was spent in the middle of a field in the middle of the woods in the middle of nowhere, MD. Markoff’s Haunted Forest. we sat around a giant bonfire watching the 500 or so other folks waiting to enter the forest trail. in a distinct effort to disassociate themselves from halloween, the DJ spun nothing but Enigma remixes while Lord of the Rings and Nightmare Before Christmas was projected onto 2 billowing sheets. weird. we also watched as these 2 teenage olson twin lookalikes we dubbed “the lost girls” circled around the campfire like vampires seeking prey. also weird.

big dan and eric

i mentioned that alex got me a copy of the new sigur ros album “()”. it’s really good. it might be better than the last album. the last song on the CD comes close to mimicking how those little icelandic guys sound live. i’m getting really excited about their show on the 4th. They also launched their new website yesterday to correspond with the CD release. I don’t understand a lot of it, but I think you can become a member and upload your interpretation of what the lyrics are, upload photos and download live audio and video (with a CDKey).

halfway thru disc 2 of the dischord boxset. so much material there i can’t even begin to get my head around it.

geez, that was a long post, eh?

the recap

notes:

  • rocket from the crypt is on the craig kilborn show tonite.
  • alex hooked me up with the new sigur ros and the dischord boxset. i’ll give review later.
  • markoff’s haunted forest in the depths of maryland is some scary schtuff. [pix later]
  • demo day at wakefield park was yesterday. cruising around for hours on 4-5 thousand dollar rigs made me realize how much i like my simple hardtail. [pix later... no, really]

nownownownow

i’ve been listening to NPR on KCRW all day. almost 6 hours straight now. my mind has been poisoned by news.

bumps in the nite

listening to NPR while driving in this morning, i got to hear the last installment of TechnoPop: The Secret History of Technology and Popular Music. a quick glance into the world of modern DIY recording artists. the interviewed featured steve albini who described the home recording phenomenon as “The triumph of the amateurs.” very true, very cool.

it was the weirdest thing last nite. i’m dead-to-the-world asleep by midnight when kristy and jack are both awoken by the sound of the dog door closing down in the basement. I said ‘well, if anything/body was down there, the motion detecting light in the backyard would be on,”. i walked back to the office that overlooks our backyard and sure enough, the light was on.

gulp.

i prodded jack downstairs (he’s the world’s worst guard dog, but i guess he could look scary… besides, i’m not going down there alone). walked down the 3 flights to the basement, turned on the lights and…

nothing.

i checked every square inch of that level, nobody, nothing, nada. i think it would take a creature of some size to both set off the light and get in the dog door. no idea. try getting back to sleep after that. (it took me a full 15 minutes).

tonite: horror double-feature at ryan’s. featuring lex and rodeorob. i think the only person in attendance without a website will be kristy. that’s either cool or sad… and i’m not much of a judge on cool.

massacre

“Agents searched the home in Tacoma, Wash., Wednesday with metal detectors and chain saws”

it gets serious when you search a house with a chain saw? daaamn…

more black helicopters

very weird.

fox5 is reporting that: “Montgomery County police have stopped traffic at two locations along Interstate 270 after receiving reports that a white Isuzu box truck pulled up next to a school bus filled with children and that a person inside pointed a rifle at the bus.”

curiously, at the same time all the traffic cameras in the area have been shut off.

shoplifters of the world

pulling down some new sigur ros from limewire, gave a chuckle when i saw this description of a song title. i’m with ya man.

embarassing moment #4

i got busted shoplifting when i was fourteen. at value city. stealing socks. they were really, really ugly socks, too…

i’m not entirely sure why i tell these stories, they don’t exactly portray me in the best light …
