stupidstupidstupid!

before admitting my stupidity, let me defend it by saying that i’ve been wrenching on bikes for a while. i don’t own a torque wrench and never realized how important they are.

if you remember back, i snapped a crank off my bike at the beginning of december. spent most of the month finding a new pair that i could afford. finally got a great deal, slapped ‘em on my bike and was happy. until i realized that they were coming loose every 5 minutes. i expected a bit of breaking in, but these just seemed broken. an email to truvativ (the manufacturer) enlightened me with my own horrible mistake:

Hi Corey, It sounds like you overtightened your cranks. The bad news is you need to buy new cranks, the good news is that you can buy them direct from Truvativ if you want. Please contact us if you have more questions. Thanks, Mark.

back to being bikeless until i get this one resolved. oh, and off to the hardware store to buy a torque wrench.

sport?

why is there a ’sport’ edition of the dodge caravan?

do they hold underground mini-van races somewhere on the outskirts of town?

bikes on parade

spent way too much time in front of the computer over the weekend. saturday looking for another job, sunday doing work for this job.

superbowl, schmooperbowl… didn’t catch a second of it. instead i was true to my oft-said methodology, “why watch a sport when you can do a sport?”. took the bike down to the vans skatepark for the 9-11 bmx session. geez, i had a good time. not many people there at all, the kids at the gate shot me some looks as i rolled up. “wow, i’ve never seen anyone ride a mountain bike here!”. grin. quarter pipes, lotsa boxes, drops, gaps… i floated around like a 26″ butterfly.

by 10:30 i was cashed. absolutely exhausted with a silly grin plastered on my face. this might be my new sunday nite thing…

on the drive in

heard on NPR this morning

NPR : Billy Joe Shaver: Overcoming Heartbreaks

Another song, “Drinking Back to You,” was written during one of his separations from his late wife and childhood sweetheart. He ended up marrying her three times. “Very few women marry the same man three times,” he says with a laugh. “I mean, that kinda made her the dumb-ass, not me.”

idontwannahearit

it’s not even 10am and i’m on my 2nd spin of the minor threat discography. it’s that kind of day.

shipwrecked in suburbia

internet access has been down at home for the past 3 days. just when i kinda need it too. if it’s still down when i get home, i’m going to take the bike down to the vans skatepark. the indoor, heated vans skatepark. waay too cold to even think about being outside.

jack had his first intermediate training class last nite. the trainers all remarked on how good he was, even though he was super distracted by all the new people and dogs. there’s a giant fluffy ewok of a dog in there called a Briard. i think his name is ‘jacques’. pretty funny looking.

fiasco

some newcomer at my webhost up and deleted my site yesterday! no biggie, i needed the awaytime.

at this time i’d like to use and abuse the folks that read this site. i’m now officially entering the job market. something happened today at work that made me realize that i need to get out of here as fast as possible.

what do i do? design/development for the web & cd-rom. expert in the whole macromedia mx suite. all that good stuff. anyone out there have any leads?

what snow?

i’d prepared myself mentally for a big snow day. stocked my cerebral shelves with canned goods and bottled water. and for what? an inch of snow? i feel cheated.

here are some notes, this will be on the final:

- added some more pics to the bikesMisc photo page.

- i’ve got all these new bike goodies and it’s too damn cold to ride.

- my other (el cheapo) web host decided that they should change their Mailman [listserv software that i use to run bikeFolk] settings to only send mail once a day. at 5pm. kind of defeats the purpose of a listserv eh?

- someone sent an anonymous note to the homeowners association about the state of the neighborhood common area. admittedly, it is pretty worse for the wear under the daily traffic of 6 hyper pups. most of the surface is pockmarked with pawprints and littered with brown grass. kristy and some other of the dogfolk attended the assoc. meeting and told ‘em what was up. grass dies in winter. yards do not look nice. come summer, we’ll be up to our ears in greenosity. yeah, that’s a word.

- i’m infatuated with the eurovan. kristy hates it.

secret ros

dc-area Sigur Rós fans take notice:

secret pre-sale tickets are on sale for our favorite icelandic oompah-loompahs at the 930 club march 18th-19th. drop me an email for the URL and password. gots mine and alex’s in the mail last nite.

the whole time i was transitioning servers i kept thinking of other things that i should note on this blog. now that everything is GO, i can’t think of a single one of ‘em. it’s like going into a giant record store and your mind just wipes clean.

jimmy askew’s taken the DCB list over again. i kinda dropped the ball a couple weeks ago and forgot to post it on a friday. d’oh! things are so busy around here for the next month or so, it’s a good thing that i don’t have to do it.

wife got me the bart ‘cool yr jets man’ BK watch, my friend chris got me the homer ‘mmmmm… burger’ one. people love me.

got next

hitting you up with a brand-new server and a brand-new attitude in 2003. well, at least the server part is true…
