lungfish and KOM

lungfish was pretty damn good. an absolutely mesmerizing, pummeling force of music. their sound is such a huge thing, like watching earthmovers. d higgs, a sonic explosion of an old man.

after throwing himself to the ground several times, pacing the stage under a furrowed brow, repeatedly slamming the mic stand to the stage until it bent, higgs was still raging at 1:30am. i, being a tired old man, went home and to bed.

sunday’s downhill race at wintergreen was a blast. see bunches of pics here. jack had a blast running all over the ladder bridges and stunts on mecca, then passed out for the trip home and the rest of the night. i could barely wake him up for breakfast this morning.

Subject: Question from your website about General Lee

Somebody wrote this on March 29th 2002 on your website:

“In the Must-Have column: General Lee replica show car. It’s just up the street in McLean, too… hmmmmmmm”

I live in Mclean and am trying to have a Dukes of Hazzard party. Any idea where this General Lee is?

Thanks a million

commutist

check out seth on The 3040 Project commuting 40 miles a day for 30 days. even if i had a working bike, commuting 4 miles a day for 30 days straight would be hard for me. go seth!

scariest mug shot ever

jeez… this is about as scary as it gets. Dion Milam

the agony of defeat

one of my bday gifts, a tiny paper pooch. doesn’t that look weird?

pixelated proof that i should never touch another bike:

jack did really well in his first advanced training class last night. it’s a 45 minute drive (his basic classes were 30 min away) but hopefully getting him trained offlead will be worth it.

vente y sies

happy birfday to me. 27 years of me on this planet.

all my bikes are broken, due 100% to my own mechanical ineptitude. oh well, at least there was homemade coca-cola cake (and buttercream icing) waiting for me in the fridge after my 2 mile walk home. cake truly does make everything better.

jack got lots of extra playtime and treats last night in memory of alex’s cat charlie. rest up chuck, you were a good cat… even though you tried to kill me once.

2 stomps now

bowling saturday nite was ridiculous. got to witness a full-on westsidestory line dance act to the tune of DJ Casper’s ‘Cha Cha Slide’. everyone in the joint stopped bowling to gape at the half-dozen youths ‘charlie brown-ing’ in the alley entryway. you can’t pay for theater like that.

rode some urban with phil on sunday. really nice out. we did some exploring on georgetown campus. shot some pix with the blink minicam:

i totally forgot to mention that jack got promoted to the advanced training classes last wednesday. now we have to drive a bit further into alexandria for class (it’s at a different location), but he will be getting more off-lead training. which will be VERY good for everyone involved.

2 wheels and i’m good

so maybe the old blogger’s adage is true “boring life, active blog… active life, boring blog”. you get the picture.

got the ‘cross bike from jason on sunday and got it all set up. it’s a blast to ride. i can’t wait until the trails around here dry out so i can take it offroad. here it is. also an idea of what the stable’s looking like these days. (and that’s with the singlespeed and unicycle hiding in the utility room). last but not least, the urban assault vehicle.

nothing goes together like bowling and birthdays, eh? typical of me, i don’t know the name of the lanes we’re going to saturday nite to celebrate my b-day, but it’s the only one in fairfax. right next to fast eddie’s… you know… awww, email me later for info. saturday, june 21st. 9:30pm.

my mind’s cashing check’s that my wallet can’t write, but… damn, wouldn’t this be fun??
