i heart spam

in the inbox today:

Hello my dear Mary,
I have been thinking about you all night. I would like to apologize for the other night when we made beautiful love and did not use condoms. I know this was a mistake and I beg you to forgive me.
I miss you more than anything, please call me Mary, I need you. Do you remember when we were having wild sex in my house? I remember it all like it was only yesterday. You said that the pictures would not come out good, but you were very wrong, they are great. I didn’t want to show you the pictures at first, but now I think it’s time for you to see them. Please look in the attachment and you will see what I mean.
I love you with all my heart, James.

ahh, the ’spam-as-a-mini-novella’ approach. i love it.

no sleep till dc

spent friday night hashing out some country songs with rob and elmer. i’d forgotten how fun it can be to play with a good drummer.

we threw a mic in the corner for some reference recording. download our version of No Sleep Till Brooklyn [right-click and download please].

itchy

alex got hooked up with some free tix to the scratch tour so we headed up there saturday nite. late saturday nite. damn-i’m-too-old-for-this late saturday nite. caught the last 2 songs from spooks, rahzels‘ set was hoott, jazzy jay was just getting started when it was time for us to go. what a drag it is gettin old.

odds

popped a new battery in the gs this morning. i was getting tired of bump-starting it every morning on the narrow sidewalk behind my house. bet the neighbors loved that. buckled down and ordered a jacket, boots and bike cover. it was expensive, but necessary.

some days i think it’ll be easier once i’ve lost my hair … helmet head can be a scary thing.

1993 suzuki gs500e

yup, there it is. dad brought the streetbike by on thursday. i took it out for a bit on saturday and was really surprised how immediately the skills came back to me. it’s probably been about 9 years since i’ve regularly ridden a motorcycle, but i guess the movements have been tucked away in my subconscious all that time. i’ve made a promise to myself and most people i know to stay the frick OFF our major highways (66 & 495). i don’t see the appeal of highway riding anyway.

i found an awesome resource for all things GS related: GSTwin.com. i’ve already gotten a lot of info off their forums and a lot of inspiration from the pix. i just can’t freakin’ wait for a nice warm day and my first day trip.

noengine.jpg

on the no-engined side … got my first ‘real’ ride in on the cortina. it is such a HUGE improvement over my kona. short chainstays, shorter frame, lower center of gravity are all working in my favor. took it down to vans skatepark for the 8-10 session and had a blast. learned barspins and got in some much needed practice riding manuals and fakie.

vagrant 2003 tour

yeah, so alkaline trio was tuesday nite. wow, good stuff. the show line-up was no motiv, from autumn to ashes, reggie and the full effect and AT. i feel bad for poor no motiv, those guys have NEVER gotten any push from vagrant. i’d love to see the marketing budgets for them vs the crap-o-rama which is reggie and the full effect. i’ll get into that later.

the show started at 7:30 … no way i’m getting there that early so we ended up missing no motiv and FATA. picked up a hoodie for me, kristy got a t and we got a t for LEX. reggie came on first and immediately started sucking. i was actually looking forward to seeing them, i’ve got a couple albums worth of mp3s and have always kinda liked ‘em. dunno if it was an off night, but they SUCK live. they went off stage and came back in costume as a eurotrash band and covered themselves … yea, it’s confusing, sorry.

alkaline trio was just about as good as i hoped they’d be. awesome stage setup with matching coffins standing on either side of the drum risers, huuuuuge skull/heart logo backdrop, and dapper suits. they pulled mostly from older albums and only played a few songs offa good mourning and infirmary. they played armageddon, so i was happy. after the last couple apathetic audiences i’ve been in, it was nice to be surrounded by tons of people yelling all the lyrics.

both sides of the coin

con: just spent two and a half hours at the DMV.

pro: passed my test for the motorcycle learning permit!

FIREbird

i’ve been playing around with mozilla’s new Firebird browser at work. it’s lightning fast, has great organization and popup blockers. I would ditch IE alltogether if it weren’t for one little nitpick. It doesn’t allow me the javascript formatting buttons while blogging entries in MT. i actually have to TYPE the links in… how archaic.

work’s been really busy lately … did i mention that i got jason a jobby job with me?

started digging out some dirt jumps at a top secret location near my house on saturday. uncovered an ancient turntable onsite…. guess they’re the DJ DJs, eh? (that was silly…)

my gay drummer

i don’t consider myself a dream theater fan in the slightest. but i found this amusing…

Identity theft, questioning sexuality, pickpocketing… and prog rock?

A man who impersonated Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy has been arrested in New York, the band’s web site claims. Not only did the unnamed man steal Portnoy’s identity using an uncanny knowledge of his band, his drum beats and his business contacts, but he also stole from people once he gained their confidence. One post on the band’s site claims that the faux Portnoy would hang out in bars and tell men he was “questioning his sexuality” and uncovering memories of childhood sexual abuse. He would then go somewhere and “get it on” with his victims – then steal their wallets and whatever else he could grab, including house keys.

The real Portnoy is happily married, doesn’t drink, and works hard on producing ponderous two-CD sets of arty Pantera-inspired rock for the band, according to the official site. It’s interesting to see the different forms identity theft can take – the imposter didn’t know Portnoy’s social security number or bank account number, but he still managed to do plenty of damage. And he showed just how slippery identity is these days – how many people in New York now believe Portnoy is a gay kleptomaniac?

here it goes from home

sorry for the lack of entries… for some reason i can’t post from work anymore.

i’m in the process of inheriting my mom’s GS500e. i can’t tell you how stoked i am about this. been digging around on the GStwin forums, learning as much as i can. gotta get the motivation to stop by the DMV to get my “M” one of these days. but now i’m wondering how one takes the riding portion of the test … if you don’t have a license, how do you get the bike to the DMV? seems screwy.

went to go see the push stars tonite at a little local club. it was super small and intimate, a great time. the cheese factor was a bit high at times, but they’re great songwriters so i’ll cut some slack. there was this triad of fat balding middle aged guys scattered throughout the club who were just going insane with THE ROCK. it was pretty funny, but it made me second guess how much i like the band. i mean, if I like the push stars … and THESE guys like the push stars, aren’t i just like them??? scary.

got my tickets for alkaline trio and the big vagrant mess. ’bout damn time … i’ve been waiting to see them for a couple years now, it’s just never worked out.

still struggling to get my singlespeed operational. how hard can it be, it’s only got one gear??? frustrating.
