day 2 on the couch. bored silly. ain’t that a purty lookin foot?

damn 20

ok, i spoke too soon. sprained my ankle something fierce riding at vans last night. slid off a feeble grind and landed foot-first on a declining tranny, rolling it nearly 90 degrees with all the fun popping and grinding noises. left-footed it the 30 miles back up to NOVA and spent 2 hours in the ER. xray sez nothing’s broken but i’ve got an appt with my orthopedist next week to see what the ligament damage is like. i’m on crutches for at least 2 days and have some nasty swelling going on.

so i worked from home today, spent the whole day on the couch. not a bad way to spend a monday i gotta say. prolly do the same thing tomorrow. luckily i’ve got a project that can be done from home and no big meetings.

and i think i might be getting sick. raining, pouring, etc…

early am park session

spending lots of time riding the 20 lately. i’m really getting more comfortable on it especially in a park environment. and i’m no longer returning from each ride bloody and battered. that’s always nice. snuck an early pre-work ride at the arlington skate/bikepark and it was beautiful. mid-40s out and i was sweating through my t-shirt. i can deal with winters like this, stay away snow!

jason says i’ve got it all backwards… s’posed to start on the 20 as a kid, then move up to big bikes as you age. as usual, i gotta take the long way around.

good and the bad

had some issues with the cortina and had to send the frame back. carlos was able to get me a killer deal on a brand new giant STP1 frame so i took him up on that. i was hestitant to get the giant, mostly due to my own snobbery. i’ve been riding boutique, steel hardtails for a while now and in my mind, buying an aluminum bike from a monolithic manufacturer is kind of like selling out. well, i’ve sold out. the stp is one of the best riding frames i’ve ever touched. light, while still being overbuilt and sturdy. the geometry is spot-on and feels absolutely natural doing tech stuff.

as i was leaving the house yesterday i noticed the gs was in a different location than usual… and the cover now had swiss-cheese holes in it. damn. yup, some dipwad hit it. i was amazed at how little damaged the lil bike sustained in what must have been a 15-20mph impact. i could see from the scrapes the engine covers left on the ground that it slid about 4 feet. the only real damage was to both mirrors and a scraped up exhaust can. not a single scratch on the bodywork, not a bent lever. looks like the kickstand isn’t returning to it’s full ‘up’ position, but i’m sure i can bend it back into place. typically, the ignorant moron didn’t leave a note or any indication. just picked the bike back up and took off. guess it’s backyard time for the gs.

3.12 wheelin’

spammers begone. witness the strength of street knowledge errr.. i mean Movable Type 3.12!!!

everything’s been upgraded and master ryan has given me some extra tips on defeating spam, so we’re back up and running!

took the xploder in to get new tires/rotors/pads on saturday. picked it up sat night and drove to georgetown. noticed that the new tires rode weird. kind of a loose feeling. figured they were just breaking in. on the drive home, the left rear wheel started making some horrendous noises so i pull over and investigate. turns out the guys at the shop rebuilt the wheel perfectly. except for one small detail. they forgot to put the center axle bolt back on.

the only thing holding that wheel on as we were doing 75mph on the interstate were the suspension struts. coulda gotten ugly, damn glad it didn’t.
