i’ve been watching the deal forums for a while now, waiting to pounce on a new ‘puter for the home office. my current machine has lasted pretty long, but i can barely work at home anymore. according to this post the old machine went strong for just under 5 years. not bad for a refurbished Dell. New machine is also a Dell, but obviously much more powerful. and bundled with a 24″ widescreen LCD monitor. mmmmmm. thanks to the listers at fatwallet.com i was able to save over $500 on this machine.

for xmas, we and the parents got each other webcams. i had a loose idea that we could do webconferences and they could see ryder grow up from across the country. based on some favorable reviews, we got these Logitech Pro 4000s. after some futzing around with settings and trying a few different services, we’ve had a handful of cross-country video conversations. turns out MSN is the best conduit for web video. i’ve been amazed at how well it all works. we’ve got clear, full-screen video & audio. almost like they’re in the room with us. i think this internet thing is really going to be big one day. just you watch.

alarm went off at 6:30 this morning… late for a weekday, damn early for a weekend. handyman came over to start working on the water damaged drywall in the basement. last 2 nights ryder has only been sleeping a few hours at a time. he’s been waking up screaming and flipping from side to side. hard to get him back to sleep. probably his teeth bothering him again. so nobody’s gotten much sleep this week. good thing he’s damn cute.

got a weight bench for the basement. working on dropping some lbs and building some strength before downhill season begins. i’ve got my exercise journal going, as of today i’m 220. i’d like to drop that 20 lbs in a few months and develop a better fitness core.
