Dear Slug

I need a good pickup line, something that will sweep a girl off her feet and into my bed. Give me some sort of dope line, please!

Slug: Try this one. Next time you’re at Daiquiri Joe’s tossing a few back with your Billy Bro-ceans, walk right up to that long-legged makeup kit and tell her, “I’m the type of guy that thinks it’s hilarious to write into an advice column asking for good pickup lines.” Dog, she will think you are the cat’s pajamas.

More hilarity from the Atmosphere frontman at the Onion A.V. Club

Ironworks!

so things have been busy lately. i mentioned that earlier. well, the reason for most of that action has been my decision to re-enter the job market. I spent a lot a late nights redesigning my portfolio site, creating portfolio packages and identifying a handful of companies that i was interested in. One of the places that caught my eye was Ironworks down in Richmond. After some interviews, many conversations and a ton of emails, I’m proud to say that I’ve accepted the position of Interactive Art Director with Ironworks!

so why the change? as a designer, i really need to get out of the government consulting industry. we’ve done some amazing things in the government space, but the politics and lack of speed make it a very frustrating environment to create in. I also want to narrow the focus of my career to web & interactive design.

I’ll be the lone creative in the Tyson’s office for the time being, but will be working closely with the User Experience group and the rest of the crew down in Richmond. It’s a great growth position for me within the web industry and I’m looking forward to starting on the 10th of March!

Designed to vote

I’m proud to be an AIGA member when I see initiatives like this: Get Out the Vote 2008. Check out 2004 and 2000 for examples of what’s to come. I expect this to be an even better year for this competition, as our candidates are more vibrant, passionate and resemble actual humans. As heard on last week’s Studio 360,

“You couldn’t ask for a better set of characters running for president”.

The NY Times/AIGA partner “Polling Place Photo Project” is another interesting project that shows how mainstream design & internet collaboration is becoming. Already some interesting shots in there:
